The Level 5 Children, Young People and Families Manager: Residential (SEND Pathway) Apprenticeship is designed to support deputy managers and managers of residential childcare settings to develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours needed to support children, young people, and their families. With the SEND Pathway, learners will expand their understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to provide specialist support to individuals living with additional needs and make a positive change in their lives.

Over the 18-month training programme, learners will receive a combination of face-to-face and online training and support from professionals in residential childcare. Learners will be required to dedicate a minimum of six hours per week to off-the-job training, where they will develop new skills, knowledge, and behaviours through online teaching, digital learning resources, one-to-one tuition, or workplace assessments. In the End-Point Assessment (EPA), learning will be assessed by an independent assessor through elements including a situational judgement test and a competency interview.

With mandatory and optional modules, individuals can guide their own learning for part of the apprenticeship. Individuals will learn about a variety of relevant areas for caring for children and young people, as well as managing a team effectively. At the end of this training programme, alongside completing the apprenticeship and SEND certificate, learners will also be awarded a Level 5 TQUK Diploma in Residential Management.

To undertake this training course, learners must have been a UK, EEA, or EU resident for at least the last three years. Additionally, if you do not have a Level 2 qualification or equivalent (GCSE grade 4/C) in Maths and English, you will be required to work towards these qualifications as part of your apprenticeship. For those aged 19 and above, completing Maths and English (Functional Skills) is optional rather than mandatory to complete your apprenticeship; however, this needs to be discussed and agreed upon with your employer.
