Level 4 Children, Young People and Families Practitioner (Residential – SEND)

Includes Level 2 Certificate in SEND

The Level 4 Children, Young People and Families Practitioner – Residential (SEND Pathway) apprenticeship gives you the skills, knowledge and behaviours to support children and young people with additional needs.

At a glance

  • Level 4

  • 18 Months

  • Up to 100% Funded

The Level 4 Children, Young People and Families Practitioner – Residential (SEND Pathway) is designed to support current residential care workers, support workers and individuals in associated roles to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to work with children and young people in residential settings.

Whether you are a residential care worker or a support worker looking to extend your knowledge of working with children, young people and their families, especially those living with additional needs like Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), this apprenticeship is for you.

Over 18 months, you will learn how to support and empower children, young people and their families to real their full potential whilst learning about person-centred care plans and how to communicate effectively with children and their families to build trust.

At Month 9 of the apprenticeship, you will complete a Level 2 Certificate in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), which can help build an understanding of SEND, inclusive practice and legal frameworks. Upon completion of this 12-week course, you will achieve an accredited Level 2 TQUK qualification in SEND.

The delivery model of this apprenticeship has evolved to better suit the needs and schedule of all learners. Instead of traditional monthly masterclasses, you will now take part in Spotlight Sessions, flexible and engaging digital learning experience and Ask the Expert webinars where you will have the opportunity to connect with experienced professionals in the sector. You will also receive continued support from your development coach. In your End-Point Assessment (EPA), you will be assessed by an independent assessor through observation of practice and a competency interview.

You will also be required to dedicate a minimum of six hours per week to off-the-job training, where you will develop new skills, knowledge and behaviours through online teaching, digital learning resources, one-to-one tuition or workplace assessments.

You must have been a UK, EEA or EU resident for at least the last three years to undertake this apprenticeship. Also, if you are aged between 16 and 18 and do not have a level 2 qualification, equivalent to GCSE grade 4/C, in English or Maths, you will be required to achieve this as part of your apprenticeship. For those aged 19 and above, completing Maths and English (Functional Skills) is optional and not mandatory to complete your apprenticeship. However, this needs to be discussed and agreed upon with your employer.
