Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship

Includes Paediatric First Aid

The Level 2 Early Years Early Practitioner Apprenticeship helps learners take their first step into childcare and supporting children and their families.

At a glance

  • Level 2

  • 16 Months

  • Up to 100% Funded

The Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship is designed to help learners develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to work in a childcare setting under the supervision of an Early Years Educator. It is a suitable training programme for nursery and childminding assistants, whether new or existing in a childcare setting, looking to take the next step in their childcare careers.

Over 16 months, learners will complete a range of modules which provide the skills to link theory with practice, support child development and develop as an early years practitioner. The Level 3 Paediatric First Aid Course is embedded into this apprenticeship, provided by our sister company First Response First Aid (FRFA) to equip learners with the essential first aid skills needed to confidently respond to emergencies in early years settings.

As part of this apprenticeship, learners will be required to dedicate at least six hours per week to off-the-job training, where they will develop new skills, knowledge and behaviours through online teaching, digital learning resources, one-to-one tuition or workplace assessment. The End-Point Assessment (EPA) will then assess learning through observation with questions and professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence, which will be conducted by an independent assessor. Once learners have passed this assessment, they will earn a Level 2 TQUK Diploma in Early Years.

To undertake this apprenticeship, all applicants must have been a UK, EEA or EU resident for at least the past three years. If you are aged 16 to 18 and do not have a Level 2 qualification or equivalent (GCSE grade 4/C), you will be required to work towards achieving these qualifications as part of your apprenticeship. For those aged 19 and above, completing Maths and English (Functional Skills) is optional and not mandatory to complete your apprenticeship. However, this needs to be discussed and agreed upon with your employer.
