In partnership with Male Childcare & Teaching Jobs, the Level 3 Early Years Educator (Men in Childcare Pathway) Apprenticeship is designed to help male educators develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to work in an early years setting. Whether you are looking for the opportunity to take responsibility for leading early years provision or if you are on the path to progressing to room leader, this apprenticeship is for you.

We are committed to reshaping the landscape of childcare and education and the Men in Childcare pathway of the Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship focuses on addressing the gender imbalance in the childcare and education sector by championing the role of men in nurseries and schools. This apprenticeship is suitable for male educators who are experienced childcare assistants who are looking to take the next step in their childcare career and become room leaders or manage early years provision.

Over the 18-month apprenticeship, learners will receive a combination of face-to-face and online training and support. Also, as part of the apprenticeship, learners will be expected to dedicate a minimum of six hours per week to off-the-job training, where they will develop new skills, knowledge and behaviours. Throughout the apprenticeship, learners will attend guest speaker opportunities to enhance your understanding of male roles in childcare as well as exploring career opportunities in the sector.

The Level 3 Paediatric First Aid Course, delivered by our sister company First Response First Aid (FRFA), is embedded into the course to equip learners with the essential first aid skills needed to confidently respond to emergencies in early years settings. There is also an optional Level 2 Certificate in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) which enhances understanding of SEND conditions, inclusive practices and legal frameworks.

After receiving specialist mentorship, networking opportunities, career progression support and practical experience, learning will be assessed by an independent assessor through observation and questions, professional discussion and portfolio building.

To undertake this apprenticeship, learners must have been a UK, EEA or EU resident for at least the last three years. Also, if you are aged between 16 and 18 and do not have a Level 2 qualification or equivalent (GCSE grade 4/C) in Maths and English, you must work toward achieving these qualifications as part of your apprenticeship. For those aged 19 and above, completing Maths and English (Functional Skills) is optional and not mandatory to complete your apprenticeship. However, this needs to be discussed and agreed upon with your employer.
